Day 01:
Fly Delhi – Leh;

Leh, a historic town that served as the royal capital of the Old Kingdom, is dominated by the nine-storey Leh palace built by King Singge Namgyal in the 17th century in the grand tradition of Tibetan architecture, which is said to have inspired the famous Potala in Lhasa built about half a century later. It rises from the edge of the town overlooking Leh. However, it is now dilapidated and deserted. |

Day 02:
Discover the culture and history of Ladakh. Full day sightseeing of Leh and around - its palaces, gompas, monasteries and museums. Sightseeing to Thiksey, Shey, Hemis, Stok, Matho, Stakna in the first half. After lunch explore Singge palace, Shanti Stupa, Skara. Overnight in hotel at Leh. |

Hemis Monastery, 40 km southeast of Leh, is the biggest and best-known 'Gompa' of Ladakh. Hemis is also associated with the Hemis National Park, also the abode of the snow leopard, Tibetan kiang, ibex, serow, Tibetan antelope and avian fauna population found are the snow partridge and golden oriole. |

Day 03:
Drive north of Leh
to
Nubra Valley, 120 kms one way (6 hours). Exciting experience at Khardung La, 39 kms from Leh. (Mountain Pass at 5578 m / 18300 ft.). Here is supposed to be the highest motorable road in the world. In Nubra Valley (also known as Valley of Flowers), visit Diskit gompa, the white sand dunes and take a short camel safari on the double humped Bactrian Camels. Drive upto Hunder village. Overnight in deluxe camps at Nubra Valley. |

The name Nubra
Valley is applied to the region comprising the
valley of the river Nubra and that of the Shayok, both above and below
their confluence. The route north
of Leh crosses over Khardung-la. From the top, one can see all the way south over the Indus valley to
the seemingly endless peaks and ridges of the Zanskar range, and north
to the giants of the Saser massif.
The altitude varies between 10,000 ft (3,231 m) at Hunder, and 10,600 ft (3231 m) at Panamik. Summer temperatures vary between 15oC and 28oC. |

Day 04:
Visit Panamik Thermal Springs, Sumur village, Samtenling Monastery
Overnight in deluxe camps at Nubra Valley. |

Day 05: Drive
back to Leh, passing Khardung La
once again. Stroll through the local bazaar of Leh and check out the cafe' life in the evening. Overnight in hotel at Leh. |

Pangong Lake, is 6 to 7 kms (4.5 miles) at its widest point, and over 130 kms (80 miles) long. Above Spangmik are the glaciers and snow-capped peaks of the Pangong range. It presents a spectacular view of the mountains, their reflections shimmering in the ever-changing blues and greens of the lake’s brackish waters. Spangmik is the summer home of Chang-pa, the nomadic herdsmen of Ladakh. |

Day 06:
Drive east
of Leh via Chang-la Mountain Pass (18,000 ft / 5,475 m) to Pangong Lake,

145 kms / 6 hours one way. Overnight at deluxe camps near Pangong. |

Drive back via Thiksey, Shey,
Hemis, Stok,
Matho, Stakna. Overnight in hotel at Leh / Stok. |

Shey
Palace, situated on a hillock 15 km south of Leh,
was built as a summer residence
for the kings of Ladakh. It is the oldest palace in Ladakh. |

Day
08:
A long
drive to Tso Moriri through spectacular landscapes and rough
roads via
Chumathang hot springs
into Rupshu Valley - 240 kms, 8 hours.

Day 09:
Explore
Korzok monastery, nomad
Chang-pa camp and the migratory birdlife. Overnight in camp. |
Korzok, situated at 15,000 ft (4,572 m) is the only permanent settlement in Rupshu. | |

Day 10: Tsomoriri lake - Leh, 265 kms / 9 hrs.
Drive back to Leh
via Tso Kar, Tanglang la
(5359 m / 17700 feet). |
In Rupshu the animal most likely to be spotted is the Kyang, the wild ass. The lakes are breeding grounds for numerous species of birds. | |

Day
11:
Drive east of Leh to Alchi (3300 m / 10000 ft)., Ulleytokpo,
68 kms.
|
|
Alchi is a small village in the Indus Valley, 67 kms west of Leh. Abandoned centuries ago the gompa or monastery is known as Chos-kor, or religious enclave and comprises of five temples. Its murals, dating from the 11th century, pre-date the Tibetan style of painting seen in all the other gompas of the region. Unlike other monasteries, Alchi is at ground level and is nestled in the shade of a garden. |

Day 12:
After
breakfast
drive 57 kms up to reach Lamayuru with its lunar landscapes and the oldest monastery of Ladakh.
Post lunch
drive back to Leh
(125 kms)
and enroute visit
Ridzong Monastery. |
Lamayuru Monastery is believed to have been a sacred site for the pre-Buddhist religion known as Bon. The main image is a large Vairocana (the Teaching Buddha) seated on a lion throne with a garuda (mythical bird) and sea monsters surrounding his head. Lamayuru is 125 kms west of Leh at an altitude of 3510 m / 11600 feet. | |
